Builder Magazine offers new insight on immigration laws for contractors in a June 15, 2009 article. The article notes new workplace enforcement policies for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement division (ICE), including harsher penalties for employers who hire undocumented workers. Builders and contractors are responsible for their subcontractors, too, and enforcement is going to be stepped up in these areas, as ICE enforcement has openly acknowledged their priorities are now finding employers who knowingly hire undocumented workers in a variety of industries across the country, including building and contracting.
